Cause

Join us at the Kamloops Food Bank in our mission to combat hunger in Kamloops and the surrounding regions. We're dedicated to serving our community by providing vital support to nearly 14,000 individuals, 53 community agencies, and 9 smaller food banks in our region. Our commitment to ensuring consistent access to nutritious food has had an immeasurable impact on families in our community.

Here's how we're making a difference:

foodSHARE – Our extensive food recovery program rescues close-dated products from 27 local retailers, diverting nearly 2.5 million pounds of healthy perishable products from landfills annually. We distribute this food to those in need, with expired items repurposed as animal feed by local farmers.

Regional Distribution Hub – While we continue to provide food security locally, we are also a critical resource for other service agencies, growers, producers, and distributors in our region. In 2023, we provided food solutions to clients, agencies, schools, regional food banks and farmers totaling nearly $10 million in retail value.

Baby Bank – Supporting families with infants and toddlers we offer monthly supplies of diapers, formula and hygiene products ensuring that nutritious food and basics required for healthy physical development are consistently available. This program is generously supported by the business community in Kamloops.

Starfish Backpacks – Collaborating with SD73, we ensure that children facing weekend hunger receive nutritious meals. 225 backpacks are filled each week with easy-to-prepare and nutritious items at the food bank. Every Friday morning, volunteers deliver these packs to 28 schools in our community.

School Snacks – We provide families with school-age children weekly packages of healthy lunchbox additions, promoting balanced nutrition.

Environmental Stewardship – Through foodSHARE we've diverted 24 million pounds of food from landfills, mitigating nearly 38 million kilograms of greenhouse gases in the past 15 years. This is equivalent to nearly 157 thousand kilometers driven by a gas-powered vehicle.

Your support helps us realize our vision of a hunger-free community. Together, we can make a profound impact. Thank you for joining us in this vital cause.
